Double spaces after a sentence

"You probably took typing in middle school? / With monospace typewriters, the normal space wasn't big enough compared to the normal space between letters. In order to make the end of a sentence clear and increase readability, two spaces after a period became standard. But with modern word processing software, the program performs subtle adjustments more like what is done in real typesetting, snugging letters closer together so they look perfectly even, which makes the space after a period look big enough by contrast. / I am a professional copy editor and the first thing I do is find and replace all the double spaces. Please stop typing them, everyone."

I’m glad no one at work asks us to do the double space thing btw. 😬 Web browsers don’t really render this.
