    The Big 3

Once upon a time, the Book of Faces was hacked. Afterwards, Burger King’s Twitter account was broken into. Pretty soon, several computers at Apple HQ were attacked by a Java exploit. In the end, it turned out that everything pointed to an iPhone SDK message board (that didn’t know it was rigged with malware).

And then I thought…what if I needed to look at a site that I wasn’t sure was booby-trapped? Then I thought, ‘oho! I could set up a virtual machine that I can view the site on. If the site does turn out to be infested and ruins the VM, I can just close it and restore it to the snapshot pre-infestation.’

    TOOORRRR!!!

The Jedi Temple…you’ll never find a more wretched hive of–oh wait. Wrong place. *ahem*

FunkyMonk and I started playing SWTOR (Star Wars: The Old Republic). We were planning on waiting for it to go free to play, but FM saw that it was only about $7 at Target and thought, welll…we could buy the game now and wait for it to go F2P.

And then mid-October, we decided–no, wait. I’m not sure what happened here. But we decided to start playing it anyway. But if we get a subscription for one month, we won’t be charged until the month is over. Before that happens, we could cancel the subscription and won’t have to pay.

  • The Secret World…wot do I think?

I played The Secret World from during the free weekend. And despite the constant lagging and disconnecting (that may be blamed on our router, Verizon or my computer more than the TSW servers*), it was fun.

That growling/grinding I kept hearing? It was the right cooling fan. I noticed that when checking the fan speed, the right one was considerably slower than the left one, when the noise was going on (left: around 3000rpm, right: 900rpm). Mr. Giantpaper thought that the fan motor was dying, but just in case it wasn’t, he decided to apply some machine oil just in case.

It worked. 😮 I guess it took a while for the oil to lubricate the entire thing, because after turning it on after putting it back together, we heard a constant low hum from the right fan (sounded like r-r-r-r-r-r, like it kept hitting something). It went away after about an hour. Now I can’t hear the fans period. :O The laptop also stays a bit cooler now. It’s still a little warm, but not cook-eggs-with-this hot like it used to be.
