Unlike the first time, where she only bled for an entire day and stopped after that*, this particular incident has her leak a few tiny drops of blood one every one or two days.
*Which I think was tied to her heat cycle, since we found out after the lack of bacteria in the urinary analysis that it was reproductive related.
(Pic above shows the blood when it was still new.)
I was reading on Guinealynx and Guineapigcages about dyes from certain foods (cranberries, strawberries, red bell peppers, other red fruits and vegetables), but I’m absolutely sure it’s not from the cranberry water* I’ve been giving her. After it’s completely dried, it’s turned brown, like oxidized blood…
*Unsweetened cranberry juice heavily dilated with water is given to guineas by some owners to prevent UTI. The kind I found at Lassen’s (health food store) is 100% undilated with very little sugar.
So she has an appointment first thing tomorrow, since her normal vet is not in today and the only two vets at the animal hospital don’t look at guinea pigs. (Since guinea pigs are considered “exotic” animals, it’s not recommended at all to bring them to a regular dog/cat vet, unless if you print off some important pages from Guinealynx (like this) and they are willing to learn.)
I THINK/hope it might be UTI (needs antibiotics to cure) instead of bladder stones (needs surgery to remove the stones or will need to wait for the stones to pass through their system) and could kinda see it being UTI. Like most peegs her age, she tends to sit in her own pee more (too tired to get up after going to the bathroom) and needs to have her bottom wiped with a towel every once in a while.
UPDATE: 75% of furry inhabitants of this household are going to the vet tomorrow. Mocha, Muffin (blood in her poop AND her vomit) and Zoey (rabies shots). Not to the same vet, since Zoey and the cats go to this local dog/cat vet who is also a friend of my mom and dad’s. I think my dad somehow found out about Mocha’s appointment before I even told anyone (except Funkymonk) about it. O.o
(It’s also a good thing Mocha has her own carrier now.
)
