It was a bright sunny Friday morning (and a little warm—80°F, despite it being Christmas next week???? >8D). Mom decided that the two of us should go out for lunch! (Since I volunteered at church by printing some CDs.)

  • We went to a computer repair store to fix a broken MacBook (turns out they charged $375 to fix an LCD display. Mom decided to have Ryan’s friend fix it for $100 instead.)
  • We returned some stuff at the mall and looked at their pet store.
  • We went to an interesting Chinese restaurant (it was Chinese, but with a twist…).

I looked at their menu for something to drink.

:O They had mai tais! (Which funkymonk recommended for its sweet taste.) It took some convincing for Mom to let me get one, since I normally don’t drink, so I might not know when to stop. Buuuuut might as well figure out now! And yup, the waiter asked for my ID. ^^-b

(Actually I just a half a glass of wine last night.  It was mixed with Sprite, but I didn’t get tipsy from drinking it. :3)

(I also got some Coca Cola, so if I won’t have to rely on the mai tai to quench my thirst (got the idea from watching funkymonk drink when we go out).)

Yup. I feel like I have crossed into new territory. I’ve drank a little out in public before (sometimes with the family and once with funkymonk), but no one ever questioned my age.

Except for this one moment at a German restaurant where I tried to get a taste of my dad’s beer and this waitress freaked out and asked my age. No ID though. .____.

So….yeah. :3

In non-alcoholic news…Valve is letting everyone on Steam play Team Fortress 2 for free over the weekend! 8D funkymonk suggested I try it out, so I tried to download it…

It said its servers were too busy. ;o;

(They had also just released a new weapon for the soldier, so I am pretty sure people were scrambling to unlock it. Thank you, Valve. >o<;)

That night…I had a TF2-induced dream, despite the fact that I never played the game. o.o I remember very little of it, other than it involved me happily switching servers. Yup.

Then the following morning, I woke up with a BRILLLLIANT idea! I could download it on Mac OS X with my Wine-powered Steam and play it there! Of course, I might to have to do some weird, hacky things to make it work, but I’m sure it could work.

And as I became more and more awake, I remembered that Source engine games tend to not do so well in Wine (even HL2 tends to behave a little cruddily on OS X—freezes at the fuzzy loading screen and it’s an older game). And….some other problems that make me a bit nervous to work with, since I would have to do some stuff via commandline, which I’m not that fond of. >o<;;

This entry was brought to you by the “WYSIWYG” (visual) editor of WordPress. XD It’s…actually kind of fun. I like not having to manually type out the markup for the unordered lists (I think doing that for a living so much made me a little jaded on it). I have to switch back to the HTML editor to add some things like a <hr>, <code> or <small> tag. Buuut they were only minor inconveniences. You could even save your draft by pressing Ctrl/Cmd-S!
