(This is probably the most personal I’ve ever gotten in a public post. Something like this normally would be in a friended entry on my LJ, except I’m looking for other people’s input.)
So…I’ve been thinking. I love my glasses. I really do. This wasn’t always the case. Before this pair, the ones I had before (and the ones before them) were pink…and I didn’t exactly fall in love with them at first sight. It took a while for them to grow on me, and I only chose them because I needed new glasses.
But these current ones are different. Ever since I laid eyes on them, I knew that they were the ones. I like how they look kind of like the black nerd kinds (which I tried on, but I kind of felt they were a bit much on my face), except they’re not as thick and they’re burgundy instead of black. Yup. I turned down any opportunity for contacts, since I love wearing glasses, especially these current ones. Not to mention, the thought of me parading outside without them just seemed weird and not me (wearing them since you were four will do that to you).
But lately, I’ve been seriously thinking about getting contacts, and if it weren’t for the reasons stated above and a couple other ones, I would already be getting them, since I dislike how glasses (well, my glasses at least) manage get dirty every hour or so, and every microfiber cloth I once owned ran off on me. And the two other reasons I mentioned: picking out new frames seems to be a real struggle for me (the only ones I like are the ones on my face, yada yada yada), with the exception of the current ones. AND I just think I look better with them on (I look so cool! XP Although my mom thinks I look cooler without them). Most people like how they look better without, but for me, it’s the opposite (as of two years ago, when I got these ones XP). I figure if I absolutely need to get contacts, I should probably try to improve my appearance a little (glasses hide so much of your face…for me that is—it’s a blessing
). I won’t go into details, but umm…yeah.
So…anyone have anything that’ll persuade/scare me off about contacts? As someone who tends to rub her eyes quite a bit (especially when I think there’s something in them), would I have trouble with them? Anything else I should know? Anyone, anyone?
(And if I do end up getting them, and if I actually do look GOOD, better than my…glasses’d self, I’ll be absolutely certain to make sure people know I’ll still be the same geeky, goofy, slightly awkward Tracey who loves hippos. XP I’m probably more concerned about relatives thinking otherwise…)
I actually use a combination of both contacts and glasses – the latter for most day-to-day stuff, but I pop in my contacts when I go out at night (e.g. if I’m dancing, I don’t want to bother with pushing my glasses up), when I’m swimming, when I do other physical activities, etc.
I’ve never had any problems with contacts – but of course, this chalk-free slate is the result of proper, hygenic use. Change your contact water every day, use eyedrops every two hours to keep your eyes hydrated, etc. Consult your optometrist to see if you’re a good candidate for contacts (some people with certain vision impairments aren’t).
Oh yeah, that’s right. I could switch between the two. I’ll probably do that if I get contacts (wear contacts when it’s more convenient, i.e. when glasses would get in the way or in other situations, and wear glasses in any other situation).
Very interesting…thanks for the info.
