Just a little while ago, I started going through my database tables. Most of them were ones I don’t use anymore (left over from old sites), so I deleted them.

Unfortunately, some of the ones I deleted were still in use—by my fanlistings no less. D: And because said fanlistings were trying to pull stuff from non-existent tables, I got a lovely SQL error (which I found out through a Troubles e-mail D: D:).

As soon as I figured out what the problem was, I started searching my hard-drive for the newest back-up I had on hand. I found one all right…from early 2007 (in fact, it was the only one I found?). D: Ummm…it was better than nothing so I used that. But because I had new people join my fanlistings after that, I wasn’t able to re-add their info. So looks like I’ll have to e-mail the staffers of the categories those fanlistings fall under and have the missing members rejoin.

Now if I had backed-up more frequently (maybe weekly or monthly), I could’ve just hunted down the file and imported that. But because I didn’t, I now have…who knows how many missing members.

This entry was brought to you by the smilie D:. Have a nice day!

  1. The best thing to do (in addition to regular backups) is to backup immediately before making changes like going through and purging old databases. Just back it up as your very first step, and you’ll never have to worry about accidentally deleting or screwing up something you need.

  2. Good advice. I’ll take note of it in the future. Thanks!

  3. Ugh, that sucks. D:

  4. Yeah. X_x
