10 Weird Things About Me

Life | March 18, 2008 · 1:45pm

So, I’ve been tagged by Michelle. :D Hee, it’s been a while since I’ve done this sort of thing.

  1. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was four, and because of that, I can’t imagine life without glasses and feel naked or not quite whole if I have to go out and not wear them. (Only problem is I’m very picky about what kinds I wear, and of course, the only perfect pair for me are the ones on my face. All others are too weird-looking or they just don’t look good on me, which is becoming a problem with fashion trends…)
  2. My biggest iTunes playlist: 147 tracks, 11.2 hours long. :P (And every single track has a reason for being there, since I sort them in a way so that they resemble an epic movie when played from start to finish.)
  3. Most girls my age back in the 6th grade got all squeamish around bugs and other slimy creatures. Which is why when a guy came to our school, bringing some sea critters with him, I was the only one who was willing to hold the sea cucumber. :P (On the other hand, I don’t like spiders, millipedes, centipedes and anything with over six legs. Except for caterpillars. I like caterpillars. And roly-polys.)
  4. I like taking funky pictures of animals: Peach gazing out the window, Lilly Belle sitting on a chair, Loretta lying down, Peach resting against the cat bed, Mocha sleeping (it’s not that uncommon for guinea pigs to sleep with their eyes open).
  5. When I was 14, I looked like I was 11. When I was 15, I looked like I was 12. When I was 18, I looked like I was 13. When I was 19, I looked like I was 14 (to one of my good friends, Adam) and 12 (to one of my other good friends, Lisa). And just recently at age 23, I’ve been mistaken for an 18 year and a 17 year old.
…I don’t know about you, but I think looking younger than your actual age is a veeeery nice blessing indeed. :D (Oh sure, you might get people treating you like a kid, just because you look like one, but for me, it’s only a minor setback. Although sometimes, I wish I were still 17/18.)
  6. Some people find it kind of strange that I’m 100% Japanese and yet I’m an American citizen. From what my mom tells me, full-blooded Japanese aren’t that common in the US (unless if they, themselves came from Japan). Mom also says the chances of two Asian Americans getting married is about 10% and the chance of two full-blooded Japanese Americans marrying? Much less than that. Despite that, my siblings, first cousins and myself are all 100% Japanese, which means all our parents are 100% Japanese. (My dad thought it all happened by chance, but my mom says it actually has do to with the fact that her dad didn’t want to see any of his kids marrying non-Japanese people, otherwise he would’ve disowned them. Just so you know.)
  7. Back in elementary school and middle school, I got all sorts of nerdy pleasures about buying school supplies (pencil pouches, sharpeners, erasers, etc), but that seems to have worn off as soon as I got into high school, and then college. Mainly because I don’t see any purpose for most of them anymore.
  8. I was extremely obsessive about keeping lists. Back in the old days of when I was an Internet newbie, I had a huge Word file filled with…lists. A list of characters (in movies, books, TV shows) who died (as sort of a memorial thing to them), list of characters who ended up being the hero in the end, list of characters who discover they actually have a biological relation to an alien kingdom/empire (in the case of Sailormoon and Tenchi Muyo!), and so on.
  9. I’ve worn the same pair of shoes for about three years now. They’re kind of like the thing about glasses in #1–the only perfect pair is the one I have.
  10. I have a collection of foreign coins lying around somewhere, consisting of Canadian coins, Japanese yen, Mexican pesos, British pounds and others.

Hmm, I tag:

(I hope you’re into this sort of thing. ^^;)

  1. In your situation, I could see how that can get on my nerves. I guess for me, I don’t always act my age (ehe…), so it doesn’t bother me much when people keep thinking me as a 17/18.

I’m pretty sure it was (if you’re talking about the disowning thing ^_^;). My grandpa and some of his siblings were uptight about their kids marrying non-Japanese folks, but my parents really don’t care who my siblings and I end up marrying, as long as of course, they’re Christian.

    Then again, it could also be a family thing. On my mom’s side, we’re mainly Japanese, with a few exceptions (some sort of Caucasian ethnicity and Chinese), but on my dad’s side, we’re a little more ethnically diverse (Chinese, German, Malaysian I think?, Irish and I think I remember hearing that my aunt is part Mexican and part Filipina). I don’t know. ^_^;

I guess for your case, you might have a use for all the school supplies you buy (homeschooling your kids), but for me, most of my (non-Studio Art) classes really don’t have a list of required supplies we need. Sometimes, they’ll just tell us “There will be tests”, which implies that we’ll need to take notes, and therefore we will need something to write on (whether it be a single sheet of paper, laptop or a regular notebook). And also we will need a writing instrument. Where’s the fun if anything else we bring is purely optional?? T_T

  2. #5 I would probably like looking younger than I am, except that it’s embarrassing when people are shocked that I am old enough to be married with kids. And then they realize that I am not old enough to be the mom of two of my kids. I kind of wish I were / looked old enough that it wasn’t the first thing everybody thought of about me.

#6 I wonder if that was more common a few generations ago? I know that on the Italian side of my family, my great-grandparents were both born in Italy and immigrated to the US, but they met and married over here. So my grandfather and his siblings are all 100% Italian. I think my great-uncle may have married a woman who was 100% Italian, too, so my cousins would be full-blooded Italian, too.

#7 I have always loved buying school supplies! The things I like to buy have changed a little now, though. Instead of pencils and protractors I buy binders, file folders, red pens, and a good quality three hole punch (for myself), and crayons, stickers, and construction paper (for the kids).

  3. You’re welcome! I’ll look forward to reading it. :3

  4. Haha, I get told I look young for my age ALL the time. I’m 23 too, and I get 16 or 17. It’s never really bothered me though, I actually find it amusing.

I use to love school shopping for supplies when I was kid! Gosh I was such a dork! I would get upset when my mom kept putting it off. But now that I’m older, (and not in school at the moment), it does nothing for me.

I only like making lists when I’m bored and I almost always throw them away eventually or just forget about them. Speaking of which, I made a To-Do-List last friday and reading this has reminded that 1) I forgot I made it, 2) I don’t know where it is.

Thanks for the tag, I’ll make a post sometime this week. ^_^

  5. I guess that could be it (first comment). I always thought it was just a cultural thing. :/

  6. Re: #6 Maybe it has something to do with Jichan and Bachan growing up in Japan? I know my dad’s parents almost disowned my aunt. But they didn’t, don’t know the whole story behind that. But I have a lot of Asian friends from high school who’re 100% Asian. Then again, I’m sure quite a few of them are recent immigrants (or their parents are).

  7. Or maybe it’s because it’s L.A. where there’s a higher population of Asians? I dunno. :3 (Sorry for double-commenting, haha)

  8. And don’t worry about the double commenting. :3
