Amusing, Unlikely Pet Names

Life | February 4, 2008 · 12:17am

I looked up female guinea pigs at Petfinder and got to see some interesting names people give to their pets.

Example? (I could only narrow the search down to “Small & Furry” when specifying what pet type I was looking for, which is why rats, mice and hamsters are included in the bunch.)

  • Two female guinea pigs named Gucci and Prada
  • Six female mice named Mazda, Corolla, Fusion, Nissan, Camry and Altima
  • A female rat named Optimus Prime
  • Two female mice named Nicole and Paris (I kinda feel sorry for them…)
  • A female guinea pig named Waffle (I don’t know why I found this one funny. Maybe because “waffle” sounds like a funny word to me. :3)
  • A female ferret named Bob the chick (As it turns out, her owners didn’t find out “he” was actually a she until after they named her. Even so, it still is kind of amusing to see a female ferret named Bob the chick :3)

(That’s all I’ll go on for, for now. They’re names I found not only amusing, but uncommon or unlikely, as in “I never thought I’d see a pet named X.”)

I guess people who were fans of what the names were referencing might see more sense in this than I do. On the flipside, I’m an anime fan, and I managed to talk my mom into naming a previous cat of ours, Melfina. Either way, I had a good chuckle. :3

  1. Rose:

If I get a fuzzy pet any time soon, I totally want to name it Stitch, as in Lilo and Stitch.

  2. ^_^ I like that idea.

  3. My cat is named Stanley. When we first got him, we thought he was a she so we named him Loretta. I think he likes Stan a lot better. My next cat will be named Charlie. I just think that is an awesome name for a cat.

  4. Yeah, I think Charlie makes a good cat name too. :) And I could understand Stan’s reasoning (assuming you meant he likes it better than Loretta). :3

  5. I personally love the name Optimus Prime. =3

  6. ^_^ Yeah, I guess it can be a pretty cool name. It just caught me off guard when I saw it, after being so used to names like Cocopuff, Cupcake, Sammy, etc…
